Soil
What is the best soil for succulents & cacti?
Cacti and succulents grow best in porous soil and well aerated soil. This means, you want some grit in your soil- gravel, large grains of sand, pumice, etc. You want to make room for water to pass right through and not stick to the soil particles.
What is the best soil for foliage plants?
Foliage plants will do well in a traditional potting mix, although they will thrive if you add additional organic matter like worm poop or compost to your mixture. The "golden rule" for container potting is to pot plants in well draining soil so the roots dont get a "soggy bottom" AKA root rot! If you're the one who likes to overwater, add some texture to your potting soil mixture. You can try gravel, small stones, or lava rock. This will break up the compaction and help keep soil loose while retaining the water it needs.
What is the best soil for flowering plants?
Very similar to foliage, flowering house plants will grow well in a tradtional potting mix made of potting soil, peat moss, and vermiculite or perlite.
Light
How do I know if my apartment has good lighting for plants?
Find out which direction your windows face. Fastest way to do this is to use the compass that comes on your smartphone OR look for where the sun sets and rises. The sun rises in the East and sets in the West. North and South are easy to figure out from there.

Kokedama

About once a week, fill up a bucket or your sink with water and submerge the moss ball for 4-5 minutes (or until it feels nice and heavy). Give it a loving squeeze to drain excess water and let sit for a few minutes to finish any drippage. Hang her right back up and let her grow grow grow!
